Friday night the Superior Spartans traveled to Eau Claire's Carson Park to face the Huskies of Eau Claire North. Superior needed a win in order to clinch a playoff spot after watching Rice Lake clinch at NBC Spartan Sports Complex a week earlier. The Spartans came in determined to make sure there was no doubt that they belonged in the playoffs.

With the first possession of the game Superior showed that they were going to control the tempo of the game as they marched methodically down the field. Gunnar Gronski opened the scoring with a 10 yard touchdown run off of the right tackle putting the Spartans on top, 7-0. Gunner Johnson extended the Spartan lead to 14 with his own five yard run up the middle. Superior went up 21-0 after the first quarter on a pass from JOhnson to Max Plunkett from 55 yards out, a catch that was made after Plunkett tipped the ball to himself and then outran the defense.

The second quarter started like the first ended with a pass from Johnson to Plunkett from 26 yards out in which Plunkett went up high to bring it down. Luke Drougas halted the next Husky drive with an interception off of North quarterback Ryan Venne. The next play saw Conner Fonger rumble in from 50 yards out as he took the handoff and bounced it off left tackle. Drougas made the score 42-0 after back to back long runs, ending with a 28 yard scamper.

That was the score going into half, and would remain the final as the second half saw many of the Spartan reserve players seeing the field. The clock remained running during the entire second half. The defense stepped up in this one and earned a shutout, helping the team clinch the playoff spot.

The Spartans will return to action on Friday, October 21st. The Spartans earned the 2 seed and will be hosting Holmen, a team they beat in the second week of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
