ST. PAUL, Minn. – Junior midfielder Miguel Ocampo (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) rocketed a penalty into the top left corner in the 77th minute to break a 1-1 tie and the UW-Superior men's soccer team went on to beat Macalester, 3-1, on Wednesday.

Ocampo's goal came just nine minutes after the Scots knotted the match at 1-1. UWS senior goalkeeper Dalton VonKaenel (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) made the initial save to his left on Webster An's penalty attempt, but the rebound bounced back to him. An put the ball past VonKaenel with a volley in the 68th minute.

UWS (3-0) scored the first goal of the match in the 21st minute as James Bruce (Gladstone, Mich./Gladstone) headed home a long throw in by Mason Tynsky (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) to the near post. The goal was the first of two on the night for the Bruce.

Bruce added his second in the in the 82nd minute, poking the ball past Macalester goalkeeper Cade Fink (three saves) low into the corner. Danny Kearns (Greenock, Scotland/Clydeview Academy) assisted on the goal, his first point for UWS since Oct. 8, 2017 at St. Mary's, after not playing as a junior.

VonKaenel made five saves in the match – all in the second half. He also stopped a second penalty kick in the 84th minute on Theo Nsereko to preserve the two-goal advantage.

The victory for the 'Jackets is the second consecutive in the all-time series between the two teams. UWS nipped the Scots, 2-1, in Superior on Sept. 8, 2017.

Superior next travels to play Augsburg Saturday at 7 p.m., at Edor Nelson Field in Minneapolis.
