Superior Spartans step into conference play in game two of the 2023 season. Hibbing should be proud of the new updates at Cheever Field. Superior started fast and controlled most of the first half. Spartans opened the scoring when Junior Presley Bonneville stretched a nice pass to Spencer Kidd (2) for the score. Hibbing scored with 1:53 remaining in the first half. That goal went to #12 B. Alvin on the rebound header off the goal cross bar. They went into halftime tied 1-1. Mid way through the 2nd half Superior Senior Eli Benson (2) scores to put the Spartans up 2-1 with 27:02 remaining. A little over a minute later Ben Staupe (2) was taken down inside the box for a penalty kick. A clean kick put the Spartans up 3-1. Hibbing's #19 J. Fisher scored to bring the Bluejackets within a goal with 5:54 remaining. The Spartans were able to push the ball deep into Hibbing territory and run out the clock for the 1st conference win of the season. Spartans move to 1-0 in Lake Superior Conference and 2-0 overall. Spartans will host Chippewa Falls at NBC Spartan Sports Complex on Saturday at 3PM.
