Superior Spartans hosted Duluth Denfeld Thursday night in a Lake Superior Conference Matchup at Wessman Arena. The opening period had a good pace and some good scoring opportunities. Denfeld opened the scoring  at 12:37 when #8 Valtteri Luhtalampi scored to make score 1-0. Assists on the play went to #13 Jakob Smith, #12 Nolan Harju. The 1st period came to a close with Denfeld with the only marker. The second period would belong to Denfeld's Junior #18 John Scott as he had a natural hat trick scoring at 7:25 (#17 Ericksen, #21 Jacob Feiro), 10:39 on the power play (#8 Valtteri Luhtalampi) and final goal 16:36 to end the period with the 4-0 lead. The Spartans would make a charge scoring at 6:04 of the third as #12 Lucas Williams got a backhand rebound past Conner Doyle. The Spartans were able to ring the post and crossbar but that would be the only scoring in the contest. Denfeld added one more goal at 16:10 by #15 Tristin Nephew (#11 Liam Doyle, #28 Garrett Frazer) to secure the 5-1 victory. Denfeld will move to 5-3 on the season while the Spartans drop to 3-2. Superior Goaltender Trent Peterson ended the game with 29 saves. Winning Goaltender Conner Doyle made 22 saves in the winning effort. The Spartans will be in action at Wessman Arena on Saturday as they will face Amery in a non-conference game at Wessman Arena at 2PM. #18 John Scott was selected as the Nummi Jeweler "Gem of the Game" for his 3 Goals.
