Superior Spartans Boys Hockey Team had a quick turnaround from Thursday night's loss to Denfeld to face the undefeated and #1 ranked team in Division II Amery Warriors. Spartans got the jump as #4 Cainen Raivala (#7 Brayden Severin, #12 Lucas Williams) scored his first goal of the season and put the Spartans up 1-0. The score would stand through the 1st period. The Warriors came out quickly and got the opportunity to tie the game 1-1 when #6 Elliot Greene (#11 Stuart Hellie, #23 William Jensen) found the lose puck on the rebound. Spartans retook the lead at the 13:30 mark on #4 Cainen Raivala (#12 Lucas Williams, #7 Brayden Severin) second goal of the afternoon to go up 2-1. Twenty two seconds later #18 Jackson Marthaler (#23 Hunter Hanson, #10 Tyler Olson) carried the length of the ice and beat the goalie glove side to extend the lead 3-1. At 16:29 the Spartans closed out the contest with a empty net goal to #7 Braydon Severin (#12 Lucas Williams). Amery's goaltender ended the contest with 21 saves  while Superior's Trent Peterson had 25 saves in the 4-1 win. The Spartans move to 4-2 on the season and will host Hayward at 5PM on December 21st at Superior Ice Arena on a twin bill night as the Spartan girls will follow at 7PM. Our Nummi Jeweler "Gem of the game" was awarded to #4 Cainen Raivala for his first and second goals of the season.
