Finally the 29th Annual Pleasureland RV Show and Go weekend celebration in Brainerd, MN, is here and Tommy Archer and his crew will be there for the Trans Am Ryan Companies Independence Day Classic.

It will be Tommy's first race back since his cancer surgery in March, and "everybody is excited because everyone has become attached, especially when there's a chance to win," said Tommy.

Tommy believes that he has another advantage; his blue Camaro.  This car is all Tommy's, it's his, no company owns it.  It's Tommy's car.  It has a customized seat that fits Tommy "like a glove", a personalized radio set up, cool air pumps for his helmet, and large print so he can see which would normally be small print on the dash, without his reading glasses.

It's been a busy week for Archer racing as test runs and last minute tweaks were being made before loading up and heading off to Brainerd.  Tommy put on 250 miles between two test runs at Brainerd International Raceway last week, with minor, everyday adjustments, "...maintenance checks, checking the clutch...redoing brakes...not necessarily anything wrong, but something that can always be made better" Tommy explained.

On Wednesday, Tommy and car 54 were at Kolar Chevrolet for employees and for the public to check out the car and get autographs.  The next pit stop that day was at Black Bear Casino Resort for more pictures and autographs.  Yesterday, the crew and car loaded up in the trailer and headed to Brainerd for "load in" day.

This course is a road course, about 2.6 miles, 13 turns, with 22-24 TA2 cars racing, sand terrain, and a flat track.  Tommy and the crew's "Cinderella-story" goal would be first place and "top 5 would be good", even podium would be "fantastic."

Friday, there was four practice times, with opportunities to make adjustments, and Saturday will be a qualifying race.  Sunday is the big race day for the Trans Am Independence Day Classic.  The race is set to start at 1:50 p.m.  Fellow driver Nate Stokey will be in car 49, also in the TA2 class.
