The UWS Women’s Basketball team is on a 14-game winning streak as they beat Finlandia by a final score of 81-60.  The leading scorer for the Yellowjackets is Allyssa Lindberg with 19 points.

In first half score was a 51-21 blowout with the Yellowjackets ahead.  The Yellowjackets shot an amazing 61% from the field, going 4-4 on 3-point attempts and hitting 3-3 on free throw attempts.  Allyssa Lindberg scored 12 points in the first half, and Hailey Kontny scored 11 points, finishing the game with 15.  Kontny hit 6-10 of her shots from the field.  Amelia Leger had five assists in the half and finished with a team high six assists off the bench.

In the second half, the Yellowjackets started to cool down, only shooting 38% from the field and hitting less than 50% of their free throw attempts.  A main reason was that they decided to give their bench players more playing time after a comfortable first half lead.  One of those bench players who contributed was Katie Boone, who scored seven points and was 2-2 from the field.  Starters such as Hailey Kontny, Grace Kennedy, Bailee Bartunek, and Justine Larson only got five minutes or less playing time in the second half.  Bartunek lead the team with nine rebounds.  The leading scorer for Finlandia was Julia Daavettilla with 20 points.

The Yellowjackets shot 50.8% from the field, and hit 6-9 of their 3-point attempts beyond the arc.  They didn’t make as many of their free-throw attempts, only shooting an average 56.3% from the line.  They won the turnover battle 15-20 and outrebounded Finlandia 46-33.

Attendance for the game was 118.  The Yellowjackets are at an astonishing overall record of 17-2 and are still undefeated in conference play at 11-0.  The next game on the schedule is at home against Crown College on February 5th.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
