UWS Women’s Hockey defeat UW River Falls

The UWS Women’s Hockey team defeated UW River Falls at Hunt Arena by a final score of 3-1.

In the first period, Mikayla Gooden scored the first and only goal of the period to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead.  The assists were from Lexie Weiss and Abby Constant-Bercier. 

The second period was scoreless for both teams.  Abby Constant-Bercie and Mikayla Gooden were both called for hooking during the period. 

In the third period, the Yellowjackets scored two more goals.  Mikayla Gooden added another goal to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead.  That was her seventh goal of the season that went unassisted.   Later after 10:33 in the period, Kelly Cockerill scored to extend the lead to 3-0.  That was her second goal of the season assisted by Amanda Coey.

It appeared the Yellowjackets would earn a shutout until Ashley Effertz of the Falcons scored with just 3:56 left in the game.  That was her first goal of the season assisted by Karleigh Wolkersorfer. 

UWS goalie Sky Brown finished with 33 saves, allowing only one goal.  The overall record for the Yellowjackets is 9-7-4 with a conference record of 3-4-2.
