The UWS Women’s Basketball team just won their 16th game in a row and are on a hot streak. They defeated Crown College and the University of Minnesota-Morris last weekend at home.
The final score against Crown College was 86-47. Bailee Bartunek scored 16 points and was an impressive 8-9 from the field shooting. She also had seven rebounds. Hailey Kontny scored 12 points and was 5-9 shooting from the field. She also added six rebounds. Hadley Skalmoski had seven rebounds and scored five points. Justine Larson had 10 points and was 4-6 shooting from the field.
As a team, the Yellowjackets shot 43.4% from the field and were 5-21 from the 3-point arc. The also hit 15-24 of their free throws.
Against the University of Minnesota-Morris, the final score was 71-51. Hailey Kontny was the leading scorer with 17 points, hitting 6-14 field goal attempts. She also had 11 rebounds. Allie Nelson had 11 points and was 2-5 shooting beyond the 3-point arc. She also played well defensively and had three steals. Grace Kennedy scored ten points and was 5-8 shooting from the field. Hannah Norlin also contributed ten points from the bench.
The Yellowjackets shot 42.9% from the field, going 2-12 from the 3-point line, while hitting 9-14 from the free throw line. Minnesota-Morris only shot 36.2% from the field. The Yellowjackets won the turnover battle as well, committing only 14 turnovers.
The Yellowjackets are an impressive 19-2 for the season and are undefeated in conference play at 13-0. The next game for the Yellowjackets is against St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minn. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
