UWS Women's Hockey falls to St. Thomas in OT

The UWS Women’s Hockey team lost against St. Thomas on Tuesday at home in overtime.  The final score was 4-3.

In the first period of the game, Mikayla Gooden of UWS scored her eighth goal of the season to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead. 

In the second period, Lynne Larson scored her eleventh goal of the season to put the Yellowjackets ahead 2-0.  The assist came from her sister Karen Larson.  St. Thomas fired right back, as Kathryn Larson scored her 12th goal of the season.  The assist came from Allie Borgstrom and Karina Marette.

St. Thomas scored two goals in the third period, one from Kaylee Druk and another from Rachel Friberg.  With just under a minute left, Hailey Adair for the Yellowjackets tied it up by scoring her sixth goal of the season.  The assist came from Karen Larson and Lynne Larson. 

In overtime, at 1:17 into the period, Ellie Tabaka scored the game-winning goal for St. Thomas.  She was assisted by Becca Zarembinski and Courtney Umland.

The starting goalie for the Yellowjackets was Sky Brown.  Brown had 34 total saves.  The Yellowjackets had 28 total shots on goal, compared to 38 from St. Thomas.  There were hardly any penalties called during this game.  Pamela McLeod was called for tripping in the second, commiting the only penalty of the game for the Yellowjackets.  UWS won 26 faceoffs and lost 24 faceoffs.

Attendance was very low at only 58.  The Yellowjackets are currently 9-10-5 overall and are 3-6-3 in conference play.  The next game for the Yellowjackets will be at home against Finlandia University on Feb. 21.  Game time is set for 11 a.m.
