UWS Women’s Hockey team defeats Finlandia University

The UWS Women’s Hockey team defeated Finlandia University by a final score of 5-2 on Sunday at home.

The Yellowjackets scored three goals in the first period.  Lynne Larson scored her 12th goal of the season and was assisted by Karen Larson.  Kelly Cockerill scored a shorthanded goal, and Emily Heid scored her fifth goal of the season. 

Finlandia’s two goals came from Natasha Kern and Hannah McCormick.  In the third period, Emily Heid scored her second goal of the game and her sixth goal of the season.  She was assisted by Abby Constant-Bercie.  Pamela McLeod scored her second goal of the season and was assisted by Lynne Larson.

The starting goalie for the Yellowjackets was Sky Brown.  She finished the game with 14 saves.  The Yellowjackets outshot Finlandia by 64-16. 

Attendance was at 57.  The Yellowjackets are currently .500 with a 10-10-5 record and are 3-6-3 in conference play.  The next game for them is in the WIAC playoffs on the road against UW-Stevens Point.  Game time is set for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
