UWS Women’s Basketball Team defeats North Central

The UWS Women’s Basketball team defeated North Central University at home on Saturday by a final score of 72-60.

The leading scorer for the Yellowjackets was Allyssa Lindberg with 16 points.  Lindberg was 5-12 shooting from the field and was 5-11 beyond the three point line.  Hadley Skalmoski scored 14 points and led the team with eight rebounds.  Grace Kennedy scored 13 points and also added seven rebounds.  Allie Nelson led the team with three assists.

For North Central, the leading scorer was Lizzy Swanson with 20 points.  Swanson was 7-17 shooting from the field and had seven rebounds.  The leading rebounder for the team was Jamie High with eleven.  She had 17 points scored and was 4-8 shooting from the field.  Bethany Cressman also added nine points off the bench.

As a team, the Yellowjackets shot 43.3 percent from the field and were 7-22 from the three point line.  They also hit 7-11 from the free throw line.  North Central shot 40.4 percent from the field and went 7-20 from the three point line.  They hit 15-21 from the free throw line.  The Yellowjackets committed seven turnovers, while North Central committed 15.

The Yellowjackets are currently 22-3 and are 16-0 in conference play.  The next game is in the second round of the UMAC playoffs where they will take on the winner of the first round game between Martin Luther College and the University of Minnesota Morris. Game time is set for Wednesday at home at 7 p.m.
