DULUTH, MN. – The UMD Bulldogs softball team concluded its second annual 1FOUR Mandy Matula Weekend with a pair of splits against Southwest State Minnesota and the University of Sioux Falls. The Bulldogs wore special uniforms with Matula’s number (14) on the back with purple donning the sleeves. Matula, a Bulldog pitcher and outfielder, had gone missing in May 2013, her body being found that following October. The 1FOUR Mandy Fund provides financial support for the Bulldog softball program.
Sunday afternoon the Bulldogs captured a 2-0 win for the first game. Both runs came in the 6th inning from Jordan Rice and Alexia Klaas. Pitcher Cayli Sadler took the win.
The Cougars answered in the second game by the Bulldogs 2-1. The Cougars scored early in the 3rd when Daly homered to right field. The Bulldogs sole run when Klass singled to left center, advancing Rice to third, and Becky Smith home. Daly homered to left center field in the 6th to clinch the win.
