The Gunflint Mail Run Sled Dog Race is a continuous race consisting of two legs of equal distance, separated by a mandatory layover. There are two classes: a 12-dog,110-mile race and an 8-dog, 70-mile race. It is being held in Cook County, Minnesota. This event is in cooperation with and under a Special Use Permit from the U.S. Forest Service.
This 400 mile marathon is longest sled dog race in the lower 48 states. The race starts in Duluth, MN and makes it way up the beautiful North Shore to the Gunflint Trail and back. This race is a qualifier for the Iditarod in Alaska. The Beargrease was named after a Ojibwe mail carrier, John Beargrease, that delivered mail along the North Shore. All the checkpoints are open to the public with many events happening before and during the race.
The mission of The Lake Minnetonka Klondike Dog Derby is to present to our local community and to the mushing community a world-class sled dog race that is a genuine celebration of the sport and spirit of the authentic North; an opportunity for education on the incredible athleticism and passion of sled dogs and mushers; and a tribute to the history of sled dog racing in Excelsior and the Lake Minnetonka area.
This race is a great race that starts in Ely, Mn and follows Minnesota's State Trail System. The race takes a 65 mile route through Tower and finishing in Cook. They also feature a 6 dog race that takes the scenic and rugged route through the Taconite Trail and finishing in Tower, MN. All check points are open to the public with warms foods and drinks at each. The WolfTrack Classic is a nice race to follow from start to finish in one day!
