Superior Spartans (1-0,2-0) hosted Chippewa Falls Cardinals (0-0) yesterday at NBC Spartan Sports Complex. Scoring started in the 36th minute when Senior Colby Stoll was taken down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick. Superior Spartan goalie, Caden Holden, picked the right direction of his dive but unable to deny the attempt. Chippewa took the lead 1-0 and would their first goal of the season and first lead. For the Spartans this would be the first time they have trailed in a game this season. Score remained 1-0 into halftime. The Spartans came out with better energy in the second half and was able to get on the board in the 46th minute. Caleb Geissler earned his first goal of the season assisted by Presley Bonneville to even the score 1-1. Just 4 minutes later Senior Ben Staupe scored to push Spartans to the lead 2-1. Goal was assisted by Caleb Geissler. The physical game went back and forth, and the speedy Grant Von Haden received a pass from Stoll in the 59th minute to tie the game 2-2. Spartans were able to mount a few opportunities but were unable to get past Mitchell Schroetter. Schroetter had 10 saves while Superior's Caden Holden had 9 saves on the day. Spartans will be on the road next Tuesday the 29th visiting Eau Claire North Huskies.
