The Spartan Boys hockey team hosted Grand Rapids in a lake Superior Conference game at Wessman Arena. There was a great atmosphere with the pep band playing and a nice crowd in the stands. Superior opened the scoring when #12 Lucas Williams put away a rebound at 12:52 (#17 Braydon Hurtig).  Grand Rapids would answer at 15:55 when #9 Xander Sheiman (#6Dominoc Broberg) found the rebound off a a shot from Dominic Broberg. The opening period ended tied 1-1. More action in the second period with the first penalties of the game which lead to some 4-4 open ice. Superior would score at the 9:08 mark when #10 Tyler Olson cleaned up a rebound off a Lucus Williams shot from the left circle. Williams cerdited with the assist. End of two periods Spartans leading 2-1. The third period would belong to the Thunderhawks as they scored 4 times to seal the victory and stay unbeaten in the Lake Superior Conference (4-0). Thunderhawks scored at 2:09 when #11 Nolan Svatos scored and assist #9 Xander Sheiman.  Grand Rapids scored at 4:59 with a highlight goal going to #21 Kyler Miller (#16 Gavin Forrest, #17 Jacob Garski) to make it 4-2. Thunderhawks not done yet as #14 Bauer Murphy scored a unassisted goal while cutting to the net and stuffing it home at 13:44. Thunderhawks capped the evening with a empty netter at 16:45 by #19 Nathan Garski to finish the game with a 5-2 victory. The Spartans will be on the road for the next 6 games before coming back home on February 1st against Proctor. Tonight's Nummi Jeweler Gem of the Game was awarded to Grand Rapids Senior Forward #9 Xander Sheiman with one goal and one assist.
